Most handbags begin with a roll of fabric or a sheet of leather. Ours begin with an idea and a digital file.
Every 3D-printed bag we make travels from a sketch on a screen to a finished piece you can hold in your hands. Here is what happens along the way, and why it makes each bag a little different from anything else in your wardrobe.
1. It starts with an idea
Before any software is opened, there is a story. Our designs are inspired by nature, architecture, history and the world around us.
The Sea & Pearls collection, for example, draws on the Gulf's pearl-diving heritage: the movement of waves, the shimmer of pearls, the patterns of shells. Other designs look to ancient Egypt, to flame, or to drifting clouds.
At this stage we collect references, sketch shapes and decide what feeling the bag should carry. A strong idea makes every later decision easier.
2. Designing in 3D
Next, the idea becomes a detailed 3D model. This is where beauty meets function.
We shape the body, the handle and the surface pattern, then check the details that matter when you actually use a bag:
- Size and proportion, so it holds your essentials and sits well in the hand or on the arm
- Strength, so handles and joints can carry weight day after day
- Pattern and texture, which 3D printing can create in ways traditional cutting and sewing cannot
- Printability, so every curve and opening can be built cleanly by the printer
A design is often adjusted several times before it is ready. Small changes on screen save a lot of material later.
3. Printing, layer by layer
When the model is ready, it is sent to the 3D printer. The software slices the design into hundreds of thin horizontal layers.
The printer then builds the bag from the bottom up. It lays down one layer of material, then the next on top of it, each a fraction of a millimetre thick. Slowly, the pattern you saw on screen rises into a real, three-dimensional form.
We print in PLA, a material that is durable and comfortable to use. Depending on the design and size, a single bag takes around 14 hours to print. It is patient work, and it is the moment the digital idea first becomes something you can touch.
4. Finishing by hand
A printed bag is not finished the moment it leaves the printer. Every piece is checked and completed by hand.
We remove any support material, polish the surface and inspect every detail. Small flaws are fixed by hand, and if a print has too many issues, we print it again from the start. Handles and any extra parts are assembled and secured. Only when the bag looks and feels right is it carefully packed and prepared to make its way to you.
This is where technology hands over to craft. The printer builds the form; human care makes it ready to wear.
Why 3D printing?
We chose 3D printing because it lets design lead, not the limits of a sewing machine.
- Shapes and patterns that are hard to make any other way, like lattices, waves and sculpted surfaces
- Made to order, so pieces are produced when they are needed rather than in large stock runs
- Less waste, because material is added only where the design needs it instead of being cut away
- Room for personalisation, since a digital design can be adapted for a custom piece
The result is a bag that sits somewhere between an accessory and a small piece of wearable art.
Caring for your bag
PLA is easy to look after. To clean your bag, simply wipe it with water and a soft cloth; it will not affect the material or the finish.
From our screen to your hands
Every bag you carry from us has made the same journey: an idea, a digital model, hundreds of printed layers, and careful finishing by hand. What starts as a file ends as something tangible, a piece of design you can take with you.
Explore the collection to find your piece, or tell us your idea and we will create a custom bag made especially for you.
